Type Locality and Naming
Holotype section: Vihowa Rud at Chitarwatta Post in eastern Sulaiman Range. Author: W. R. Hemphil and A. H. Kidwai, 1973. Reference section: None.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandy claystone. The formation consists of red, grey and green claystone and subordinate amounts of siltstone and sandstone. The siltstone is variegated, friable and ferruginous. The sandstone is white, brownish, yellow, calcareous in places and commonly ferruginous.
Thickness: 250-500 m. It is 500 m thick in the type section and 400 m SW of the Domanda Post. At Baghobandki it is 250 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformably underlain by Kirthar Fm
Upper contact
Disconformably overlain by Siwalik Gr
Regional extent
It is present in the foothills of the Sulaiman Range. The formation appears to be thin in the northern most part of the Sulaiman Range and may wedge out along the western flank of Sorai Ghar in Waziristan, farther north.

Fossils
Gastropods: Crommium sindiensis, Cirsotrema pseudodubiosa and Turitella cf., Turitella narica. Vertebrate remains are common.
